Bod And The Apple

Ivan Pope:
Then along comes Frank, the postman
Frank the postman represents external information, the teacher, the librarian, the internet, books, magazines, radio, television. Everything that is external to Aunt Flo and her familial concern for Bod's upbringing, her fear that he may be lost to some liberal arts. He asks what they are doing, and upon being told that they are waiting for an apple that Bod threw up in the air, he decides to wait with them.
Frank does not question that the apple is in the air, but nor does he question that it will fall to the ground. External information is neutral at this point.
Bod is silent. He trusts these people. They are always right, but still he waits with an unknowable longing.
