A deerskin from Fort William on a discarded beam from a wasted forest, a hessian plumber's bag and a jar half filled with earth: there was a feeling that year for the rugged, bucolic colours of the Thomas Hardy character; and for brass beds. Cathy only wore these strange and higgledy-piggledy outfits for my photographs and the thing they do the most is lessen the child in her. |
